The Elements

The element of Air represents mental energy: thoughts, ideas, logic, hard facts. It is the energy of connections: friends, family, those people in our lives that nurture us in a healthy way. Air is associated with the direction East, is honored through the use of incense, the sword or athame, and words or sounds. When working with Air\East energies, focus on your breath, on how light and variable air can be, how it moves within you and yet how easily it is exhaled.

The element of Fire represents will or passion: drive, courage, motivation, inspiration. It is the energy that rises within us powering change, and the will to overcome obstacles in our lives. Fire energy is associated with the direction South, it is honored through the use of flame in both candle and fire form. It is also honored through the use of the wand. When working with Fire\South energies focus on the things in yourself that motivate you, feel passions rising within you that threaten to consume all that is around you, feel the heat in your blood as well as in your body.

The element of Water represents emotions: deeply felt and transformative emotions such as love, hate, anger, grief, fear. Water is associated with the direction West, the setting sun and also our ancestors and our personal history. Water\West energy is felt through emotion flowing through us, tears of joy and of sadness, through the depth of feeling our own humanity and it's connection to all humanity.  Water energy is honored with water or wine, and the use of the Chalice.  When honoring these energies, reach deep into your heart and find the feelings that move you, the feelings that you can't deny or restrain. Let them flow through you.

The element of Earth represents manifestation: the body, the earth, plants and animals, all things that can be touched. Earth energy is associated with the direction North. It is the energy of the things that ARE, the undeniable feeling of touch between people, the energy the pushes physical growth and weighs heavy around us as the objects we surround ourselves with for comfort. Earth energy is honored with food, with salt, and with the use of the Pentacle.  When honoring the North\Earth energy feel the weight of your body, feel the muscles moving beneath your skin and the energy that rises from movement.
